Today we were in Berlin, the capital of Germany. The goal was to getting to know the German-German history in a museum and to discovery the capital.
After our train ride we arrived directly in Berlin. Even on our way to the Museum we saw a lot of famous sights like the TV Tower.
In the museum we learned a lot about Wolf Biermann. He is a German songwriter and poet. His poetry was really well known in the German post-war literature. In 1953 Wolf Biermann moved to the GDR and published his first songs and poems a few years later. In 1961 he founded the „Berliner-Arbeiter-Theater“ in East Berlin. He wrote critical plays about the politics or, for example, about the building of the Berlin Wall. Over the time, he became a critic of the SED and the GDR, which is why he was banned from performing or even publishing in 1965. After a few years he was expatriated and was no longer allowed to immigrate to the GDR. All this led to fierce widespread protests and so he is considered a portent for the end of the GDR.
After this informative hours in the museum, we all drove together to the Brandenburg Gate, a personal little highlight. We spent a few more hours together in the city center, looking at buildings or sitting together and having something to eat. It was a wonderful day with everyone together.
